Job Description

Our client is looking for a financial accountant who will report to the senior accountant


1  JOB PURPOSE
 
·  To ensure that annual and quarterly financial reporting are completed accurately and in accordance with IFRS to enable internal and external reporting requirements to be met.
·  To provide accurate information for the timely preparation of annual tax computations and to manage the tax computation process through continuous communication with tax advisors.
·  Assist with maintenance of timely accounting records.


2  KEY RESULT AREAS

Statutory and Regulatory Accounting

Accounting Records

•  Management of the reconciliation of the CDT cashbooks, Nominal and Purchase Ledgers, and Bank Accounts through regular control checks.
•  Supervise Fixed Asset Accounting.
•  Development of CDT’s internal accounting, recording and reporting systems recommending improvements to controls, efficiency, service, accuracy or integrity.
•  Review of VAT returns.
•  Review of Payment runs.

Financial Reporting

•  Preparation of Parent, Subsidiary and Group quarterly and annual Accounts and Notes, including verification of income and expenditure. Liaison with external auditors.
•  Preparation of Annual Accounting policy papers.

Tax compliance

•  UK Income and Corporation taxation reporting and payment.
•  US Federal and state taxation reporting and payment.
•  Main contact for external tax advisors.


3  KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

•  Work very closely with the VP General Affairs, Financial Controller, Accountant, and Administrators, providing feedback on day-to-day running of the dept and suggested recommendations for areas needing improvement.
•  Provide ongoing support and advice to the Finance team members.
•  Liaise with external auditors with regards to audit and accounting issues.
•  Liaise with external regulatory bodies (eg Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue) to ensure company complies with current regulations.
•  Liaise with tax advisors to ensure correct tax compliance.
•  Liaise closely with Japanese representatives for reporting to Parent Company.
•  Liaise closely with Commercial and Operations to ensure appropriate flow of information connected with the revenue process.
•  Seek advice from VAT consultants to ensure correct treatment of Vat.
•  Collaborate with staff from operating divisions.
•  Maintain contact with the professional association and staff outside CDT in order to keep abreast of new developments and raise CDT’s profile.



4  KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  Key skills


•  Educated to degree level and ACA/ACCA qualified with up to 2 years post qualification experience.
•  Trained as an accountant with a “Big Four” firm or medium sized firm. 
•  Proven track record of outstanding technical competence.
•  Trained in IFRS - ability to read, thoroughly understand, interpret and apply IFRS.
•  Experience of first time adoption of IFRS.
•  UK corporate tax computation experience.
•  Knowledge and experience of financial controls, and how to apply them.
•  Excellent IT skills, in particular advanced competency in Excel.

Desirable skills

•  Experience of Sun accounting system and Vision.
•  US tax computation experience.
•  Knowledge of UK R&D tax credits.
•  Interpret new UK tax legislation.
•  Knowledge of month-end closing.

•  Proven track record of outstanding technical competence, ideally with experience of first time adoption of IFRS and tax computation work.
